Ramsdell
A
friendly church to which all ages are welcome....
History:
Christ Church was built in the mid
nineteenth century for the growing community of farm workers and for those working at the
brick kilns. Before this the population had to walk several miles to Wootton St. Lawrence.
Ramsdell is a brick building with good acoustics, and consequently is packed for our carol
service held just before Christmas. It has a fine Victorian decorated roof. With the
shutting of the school and the last shop the church is very much the village focus.
In early 2000 our rather old
internal lighting system has been renewed with modern up-lighters and three
new crown chandeliers designed by our committee. This harkens back to the old
and original church style of lighting but in a modern guise. The roof paintings
are now visible and we can see to read our hymn sheets/books at last!

One of three chandeliers designed the lighting committee.
In the spring of 2000 our spire cross started
leaning a lot! Here it is being removed to be repaired, repainted and replaced
(it should be noted that this is not the Rector but a qualified
steeplejack!)
