Hannington

A church steeped in centuries of prayer.

History:

All Saints' Church is the oldest in our benefice with the north wall in the middle of the picture going back to Saxon times. The building has been added to over the centuries latterly in the 1850s with an extension (the other side of the building to our picture). Hannington is set upon a hill and is the highest point for many hundreds of miles. A thriving community exists here and every two years Hannington country fair is held in the summer with 3-5000 people attending and a large number of rural arts and crafts on display.

On New Year's Eve 1999 a large village tapestry for the Millennium was woven and placed in the church. This denotes all aspects of our life and was spearheaded by the work of the Women's Institute in the village, some of whom are pictured in our gallery  below.

Projects for the Millennium include a tapestry depicting the church and village life which was completed in the autumn of 1999. Some 20+ people are involved in its production. See below  - about 4' x 3'.

The uncovering of some of the whitewashed stonework is also being undertaken. Two fine Whistler windows are also in the church. One is shown below to a relative (William Whistler) who was a local farmer.

Please pray for the Hannington ladies prayer group which regularly meets to be a Christian resource to very many women who live in the isolated rural areas and others where their churches need supporting. Links to Malshanger house, its parent church Holy Trinity Church, Brompton and the Alpha course can be found on www.htb.org.uk.
